It has been debated to death whether it is better to run while listening to music. Some argue it distracts the runner and that no positive effects are measured, where others (me included) prefers to run with the beat turned on. It is totally a personal preference, and if you happen to be from the first group, you can skip this article. For the music fanatics, here is my list for 2016 that will make your run much more enjoyable! And make your heart beat faster! And put a big smile on your face. All right, all right, you got my point.

So, without further defending the music on the run, here is my top 5 songs for the year in no particular order:

  1. Eye of the tiger by Survivor

What a better motivation to finish like a winner? If you are to sign up to a marathon, a 5k or another race, you will find this one is going to motivate you even further. If you grew up in the 80s you will know that the song was written specifically for Rocky III, and it specifically focuses on kick-ass, winner attitude. The chords are powerful, motivating, pushing you up to your best. Let’s just say that no one will stop to take a breath while the song is playing. This song is very close to my heart as I also grew up in the eighties and it brings bitter-sweet memories. If you have not heard it yet, I urge you to do it

  1. Lose Yourself by Eminem

A great song to propel you far from your limits. A great song for the last part of your running. The lyrics are really powerful, the best is making your heart beat faster. A song that will make you pump up your pace. “Don’t miss your shot!” There will be pain, there will be obstacles, there will be enemies trying to get you on the ground. That very song has a special place in my heart, as it helped me deal with my feet pain (I have high arches and wear special running shoes for my condition).

  1. Run Run Run by the Who

Notice how it is written specifically for running? The old lyrics, coupled with powerful drum beats will pump up your adrenaline and will force you to speed up your running   You know, many research studies show that listening to music can make your workout much more enjoyable and at the same time boost your performance. Real Win-Win situation. So, let’s continue with the best running songs

  1. Black Eyed Peas –Pump It

Greatly mixed lyrics, with push up beats. The blacked eyed peas definitely know how to make you move your arse. Keep pushing and listen to the song!

  1. Raise your glass - Pink

Another song that will make your heart beat faster. Join the party. Sing with us. Run with us! Push yourself beyond your limits
